Last November, I was on the hunt for a new Assistant Wedding Coordinator for Sweetchic’s 2011 wedding season. Jessica made contact with me via Twitter! Coincidentally, I also met Hollie, our Associate Wedding Coordinator via Twitter… what are the chances?! I’m so happy to have welcomed Jessica to the Sweetchic team. And here’s what she has to say: Since I can remember, I have dreamed of being a wedding and event planner. In 8th grade I chose to job shadow a hotel event coordinator because that is “what I wanted to be when I grew up”. I was so interested in seeing every aspect of an event: from the event logistics to the fabulousness of the décor!
The other aspect I love about events is creating the “buzz” and hype around the event… the publicity, the advertising, the PR, etc. As a communications and PR major in college, I interned at a PR agency in NYC in consumer publishing. My team’s largest account was with Martha Stewart, and I had the amazing opportunity to help prepare press kits, media kits, write email blasts, and update media coverage calendars. It was a great experience and taught me how to create buzz-worthy news and introduced me to the importance of social media.
Public relations and event coordinating are two of my passions, and as a Wedding Coordinator, I am lucky to have the chance to do both. Having been a secret “fan” of Sweetchic’s blog I could not wait to apply for the Associate Wedding Coordinator position and am so excited to have the opportunity to work with a woman who inspires me through her work. I know I am going to learn so much from Charlene all the while helping a bride’s wedding day dreams come true.
