OK, to be official here are the definitions of both words:
sweet |sweet| -adjective: delightful, sentimental, precious
chic |sheek| -adjective: stylish, sophisticated, elegant
I named my business Sweetchic because every wedding should be a little bit sweet... and very chic!
How did Sweetchic Events come to be?
Becoming a wedding planner was always my dream job because it was the perfect merge of my two passions: weddings and event planning. The fantasy and romance of weddings captivated me from a very young age.
In college, I produced my first event, which led to multiple other events and shows. Eventually, I started planning weddings. Events can be quite chaotic, but for me planning and executing an event is a rush. I love handling the vendors, logistics, and people. My favorite part? Creating the overall vision of the event. I love Taking something from start to finish and seeing the end product result come together exactly as I had envisioned.
After working in the hospitality industry for a while (and planning events on the side), I decided to go on my own and pursue my passion. So, I started Sweetchic in 2008.
Are you married?
Yes, I have a wonderful husband Borton, who is a constant source of encouragement and cheers me on in everything I do! Sweetchic Events would not exist without his support and assistance. I am also “mom” to a retired greyhound, Gia, who spends her days sleeping by my side as I work.
What don’t most people know about you?
I used to moonlight as blogger “Miss Emerald” on the web’s most popular wedding blog, Weddingbee.com. To this day, I am still a daily visitor to the “hive” and remain friends with many of the past and present Bees!
What do you do for fun?
Depends on my mood! As a self-professed DVR junkie, I love to relax on the couch with one of my favorite shows: Grey’s Anatomy, Glee, Nip/Tuck, So You Think You Can Dance, ANTM, Top Chef, Project Runway, Dinner Impossible, just to name a few. I also love to entertain at home with friends (game night is a popular choice). Of course I can’t forget shopping, eating, reading, hanging out in bookstores, home decorating and organization.
What is your favorite part of a wedding day?
I love the moment right before sending the bride down the aisle, as I’m arranging her train, telling her to breathe, soak in the moment and enjoy the walk. Also, there’s nothing more touching than when couples write their own vows – it gets me every time!
Why do I need a wedding planner?
Weddings are fabulous, wonderful, emotional, fun, and exciting celebrations of your new life together. However, planning a wedding is a ton of work! Wedding planners help bring the dream of your wedding to life, while keeping you on track and within budget. We handle every detail, so you can enjoy the experience of your engagement and wedding instead of stressing about it.
How do I know which wedding planner is right for me?
Your wedding is one of the most important days in your life, you want to trust the person taking care of everything. I can’t stress highly enough: do your homework. Not all personalities mesh, so it’s important to get to know your potential planner before you start working with them (at Sweetchic, we have an initial consultation so you can get a “feel” for me before you jump into anything).
In the months leading up to your wedding, you’ll be spending a lot of time with your wedding planner. You’ll want to get along, trust me! Long story short? The right wedding planner for you is the person or company you feel most comfortable with.

What exactly does a wedding planner do?
Put simply, we do it all. Learn more about our specific services.
A true wedding planner (aka “wedding consultant / coordinator / day-of-coordinator”) wears many hats, but our job can be separated into three distinct stages:
The Planning
Tell us what you envision for your big day and we’ll take it from there! The planning stage involves things like the venue search, vendor research/referrals and contract negotiations, budget allocation, itinerary development, sourcing transportation and room block arrangements, menu selection, etc.
The Design
This is where the fun begins. Here’s where we create the memorable details that pull your wedding together into a beautiful, cohesive event. The design phase includes areas such as selecting the color palette, theme, style development, floral, and lighting design.
The Execution
The execution stage encompasses comprehensive wedding day event management, often called “Day-of or Month-of coordination.” This service is automatically included for our Full Service clients, although this is also perfect for the detail-oriented bride who wants her wedding “just so.” We begin our work with you approximately two months before your wedding and we review your vendor contracts, discuss all of the various elements such as your itinerary, wedding day transportation and logistics, and the set-up of every single detail of your wedding. On your wedding day, we oversee each aspect and make sure that your day goes off without a hitch!
Do you have a specialty?
While Sweetchic can handle all types of weddings, we love multi-cultural ceremonies. It’s so much fun highlighting the personal history and culture of each individual while celebrating a new union and the new traditions on the horizon. When you include important customs in the wedding, the entire event becomes deeply personal because there’s a sense of history.
